Custom-Built to Keep Operations Flowing: A 7,000L Water Cartage Tank Designed for the Demands of a Mine Site…
Our mining client needed a smarter way to transfer water from a 50,000L tank on site, and the solution had to be practical, efficient, and designed around the way their team works.
The goal was simple: a 7,000L Water Cartage unit that could be forklifted onto their truck, run its own pump system, and be filled from the ground without climbing up. What followed was a full custom build, from the tank components to the frame beneath it.
At the core of the project is the tank system, manufactured to handle regular site use while ensuring a smooth transfer of water. The infill line, secured to the tank wall and fitted with a non-return valve and camlock connection, allows ground-level filling—solving one of the key safety and accessibility issues for the client. A calibrated site tube with an isolation valve makes it easy to monitor fill levels at a glance.
But what truly sets this project apart is the work put into the steel fabrication. Our team built a heavy-duty hot-dipped galvanised skid frame entirely in-house, extending it to include container twist locks. The frame also includes fork tine lifting points, lifting eyelets, and a 500mm wide checker plate platform to securely mount the pump.
To power the system, we included a Yanmar L70N diesel transfer pump with electric start, paired with a Davey 5170YE wet end capable of pumping up to 450 litres per minute. The electric start ensures quick and easy operation in the field, while the entire setup is battery powered and built for durability.
Ease of use and operator convenience were factored into every detail. The hose was mounted on the passenger side and secured with a swivel and locking pin, so it’s quick and ergonomic to deploy. A steel post was added for traffic cone storage, and a sandwich-style steel bracket was fabricated to hold caution signage.
We also built and mounted a custom aluminium toolbox for on-hand tools and for neat, secure storage of the suctions hoses, camlock holders were fitted to the frame.
Every detail, from the fittings and hose storage to the container locks and frame dimensions, was designed in direct response to how this unit would be used day-to-day. It’s a great example of how our in-house steel fabrication and tank manufacturing teams work together to deliver more than just a tank—we deliver complete site-ready solutions.
If your operation needs a custom cartage solution built to take the knocks and keep water moving, we’re ready to make it happen.
