Space-Efficient Water Storage for a Large Industrial Construction Site…
When a construction client undertaking a major industrial complex build approached West Coast Poly, the challenge was clear. They required approximately 25,000 litres of rainwater storage for toilet and site amenities use, but the available floor space on site was extremely limited. A traditional single-piece tank simply wasn’t going to fit within the footprint constraints.
Working closely with the client and their plumbing contractor, our team developed a custom stacked tank solution that delivered the required capacity without compromising structural integrity or site layout. Rather than increasing diameter, the solution focused on vertical efficiency.
The final system was engineered using two 14,000-litre polyethylene tanks. Each tank was manufactured and then further modified by our fabrication team to allow them to be securely stacked vertically. This approach reduced the overall footprint to just 2.85 metres in diameter, while achieving an approximate total capacity of 25,000 litres and an apex height of 4.3 metres.
Importantly, the stacked configuration was designed to maintain the same heavy-duty performance expected of an industrial storage tank. Structural integrity was retained throughout the design, with the system engineered specifically for raw water storage.
The tank system was supplied complete with a brass inlet and float-controlled top-up, flanged overflow, bottom outlet and sludge drain, large screw-top inspection hatch, lifting lugs for dry lift installation, and an extended hydrostatic test with an eight-hour hold.
This project is a great example of how custom design and in-house fabrication allow us to solve real-world constraints on complex construction sites. By re-thinking the traditional tank footprint and going vertical, we were able to provide a compliant, practical and space-efficient water storage solution that met both capacity and site limitations.
If you’re working within tight footprints but still need serious storage capacity, custom stacked tank systems can be an effective solution and one we design and manufacture regularly for industrial and construction applications.
