High temperatures and harsh terrain demand more than a standard water storage setup. That’s why our client, an iron ore mine, came to us seeking a potable water solution that was both portable and insulated, ensuring reliable supply in one of the toughest environments on earth.
At the core of the project is two 10,000L portable tank systems, manufactured from heavy-duty LMDPE and engineered for potable water storage under ambient conditions and hydrostatic pressure. But what sets this system apart is its thermal protection. Each tank is coated with a 50mm layer of polyurethane foam insulation, sealed with a durable elastomer hard coat. This insulating barrier keeps water cooler for longer, reduces condensation, and provides a safer working environment by minimising external heat exposure.
To make it site-ready, our in-house steel fabrication team designed and built a custom heavy-duty platform. The frame features fork pockets, lifting points, a pump cover, and external protection rails, with tank position brackets to hold everything securely in place. Finished with an industrial-grade paint system and locked down with galvanised turnbuckles and chain, the platform is built to withstand repeated transport and relocation across a demanding mining environment.
The system also includes a Davey HM60-06T pressure pump, capable of delivering up to 60 litres per minute at 460kPa. Connected directly to the tank outlet with flexible hosework, the pump ensures reliable water delivery on site without the need for additional filtration or UV treatment, just as the client requested.
As with all West Coast Poly builds, the tanks underwent rigorous testing before leaving our facility. Hydrostatic pressure testing with an eight-hour hold confirmed their strength and integrity, while CAD drawings and certification provided complete transparency and assurance for our client.
The result is a robust, insulated, portable water system designed to keep potable water safe and cool in Newman’s extreme conditions. By combining durability, portability, and thermal protection in one complete package, this solution allows our client to focus on production with confidence that their water supply is secure.
