The Gold Standard In Chemical Tank Design For A Gold Mine…
Pictured here is a fully contained bunded 4,500L that will be storing 32% Hydrochloric acid for our client’s gold mining operation in Meekathara. Hydrochloric acid is a caustic chemical and highly corrosive, which means it immediately causes severe damage to tissues, such as burning, on contact. While it burns tissue aqueous solutions of hydrochloric acid attack and corrode nearly all metals, one of the exceptions being gold. Making it very useful in the gold extraction process from mined materials. However because of the chemicals caustic nature, safety for the user and the strength integrity paramount when it came to the design of this tank.
To ensure safe storage, the tank is fully contained inside an additional tank, eliminating the risk of leaks. One of the key design considerations was to avoid any pipework going through the bund wall, further enhancing the integrity of the containment system. The tank’s outlet is run through the roof with an internal dropper and foot valve. While the ball valves are made of UPVC to handle the acid safely with a non-return fitting on the infill line prevents splash back when disconnecting from the line.
For an added layer of safety this tank uses a high level alarm system with a radar level probe, which will monitor the liquid during filling. Fitted in the stainless enclosure, equipped with a digital display, this offers precision monitoring and a real-time insight into the tank’s status. With two alarm relay set points, a siren, and flashing beacon radar level transmitter, this tank sets a high standard in vigilance and control.
For our client, having a tank that they can rely on is crucial for their operation. Our custom tank not only meets their needs but also exceeds industry standards for safety and reliability.
